Like our Hawaiian Hero Project, the American Hero project was a humanities based project which features one American Hero and their legacies. Our goal is to study the demographics of the several veterans of the United States and combats danger using their capabilities or strength, courage or ingenuity. My Hero was Harriet Tubman. She was the saviour and the voice of many African-American slaves who lived out this mentally draining labor until everybody snapped which led to one of the most unforgettable moments in American History.
I have made the decision to post this project onto my portfolio because this project was a huge success much like my mixtape project for the Oral Communication portion of the humanities class. This project was also a huge portion of my Social Studies grade, for quite a long time other than current events. Most importantly, this project was also a presentation much akin to the mixtape project, the difference being is we have a script. This project in essence will help us understand the history events which shaped America to its current state.
The 21st century skill which was utilized to their extent in this work sample was Civic Literacy and Engagement. I say this because of having a greater understanding of the social issues in the distant past and how one woman who had little rights was one of the catalysts who changed everything. This work sample helped me utilize the 21st century skills aforementioned above to their extent and therefore helped me construct the framework for other 21st century skills for my portfolio.
The challenges I faced during this period of work was keeping track of deadlines. Even with my non-procrastination skills, I cannot emphasize enough to keep track of your deadlines. Another thing I could've worked on is adding pictures for every slide to make it more pleasing and welcoming than it already is. As always in presentations, I could've projected my voice better for those to understand what I am stating to them. Lets go a step further and choose another American Hero, say Rosa Parks for example. But anyhow, I did a great job on my American Hero presentation as a whole and I am proud of that, which I will get to in a brief tangent.
The aspects I did do well and are especially proud of is keeping up with time. I remember having to do the script and the presentation within one weeks time. But seeing my nature as quick witted like a cheetah, I make quick work of almost anything rather quickly. On the other side of the things I could've done better, I chose a rather original hero which almost had the same effect on African American History, Next to Martin Luther King and various other freedom fighters. I was able to present as well, which was decent but could be a little louder for next time. Based on what I have picked up and gained from this work sample, I had mixed emotions in general, but at the end of the day I did well which is what matters the most.
