Another Work Sample that was created in Quarter 1 was the rough draft for my bill. The bill is a model congress project as my Humanities Teacher, Mr. Adam Fleischer is the president/vice president. Our end goal for the bill is for it to not be vague and for Mr. Adam to accept the bill into law. You have a choice on what policies you want to enforce, what you want to restrict, etc. This bill requires information from outside sources in order to process the information into the section of the bill for the viewer to understand why it is important. Next you would have to state the terms, who would be affected, what is eligible for this upcoming policy, and what it'll do. It will also require funding from national departments and where it'll go.
I chose to select this work sample for my portfolio because it involves your abilities to research and process information and analyze if such sources are valid or invalid. Then you come up with a topic, committee, and departments that support your bill choice. The bill has to display the facts, what it will do to the public, and when it will take effect. I also chose this assignment because of the way its processed. You research first then state why it is necessary then you state what the bill would do, who it'll affect, what is eligible, etc.
This assessment represents a 21st-century skill via Civic Literacy and Engagement because of my knowledge and engagement of government, the technique to analyze sources for validity such as date of publish, and the demonstration of my knowledge of government to the community. I would also use Interpersonal skills for the Bill Peer Review in the future by agreeing and finding flaws within another person’s bill.
This work sample challenged me because sources based on my topic, (Gun Restriction Laws.) were scarce and some did not reflect facts based on my topic. Another challenge was finding the validity of the articles. The most reliable sources I found were fact-based websites due to their scarcity of bias. Finally, I could have used my time much more wisely. Although I have gotten a 100 on this assignment, I could have used my time more wisely by focusing on what is important first and then doing the least important actions after this assignment has been completed.
An opportunity of new growth I could apply in the future is to be less vague on what would happen if this takes effect, who would be affected, the distribution of information and better source findings and analyzation, and better detail on funding information. Another opportunity of new growth is to take knowledge of the peer's findings and interpret it into your final bill. That being said, I am open to improvement via better source finding (fact based sources), less vague details on what the bill would do, and interpreting feedback from peers.
I am most proud of my dedication and non-procrastination towards this assignment which led me to pass this assignment. This assignment can assist me in the future by being a reference point onto my knowledge of government and how it should operate. Like my privilege essay, I can use the language and effective research being put into this assessment for harder, more stressful assessments in the future. All things considered, I decided to present this work sample because of the choices you can make for this bill, how I processed this new information in favor of the 21st century skills, how I could improve upon this assignment, and how this work sample challenged me.
