Name of Assignment: Writing to Inform Essay Draft
Subject: English 100
Facilitator/Teacher: Morgan Andaluz
Description of Work/Assignment: This essay draft attempts to inform the reader on how to do something or something you do for a living like "What it's like to be a first generation filipino on Maui". The essay calls for the reader to learn something, whether the message was satire (probably the first option) or purely a set of instructions the reader has to follow in order to accomplish something.
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why?
The 21st Century skill this assignment addresses is Information skills since this assignment tries to inform the reader on what it is like to be so and so or how to repair a bike flat at home. Not to mention we have been exposed to one model called "The Road to Hana" which gave us a brief orientation on what Informative Papers are trying to achieve.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why?
What I'm most proud of this assignment is applying figurative language like similes, analogies, and background information to inform the reader about the parts of the canoe and paddle before actually paddling. I try to order the information by importance, getting in and out of the canoe is more important than having the stroke down because, how are you going to paddle if you're not in the boat?
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment?
I developed my 21st century skill by reading "The Road to Hana" by a former English 100 student and it got me exposed to what informative papers are supposed to look like, and trying to make the reader understand to the best of my ability by uncovering the basics of paddling (even though I am a novice myself)
What was most difficult about completing this task?
What is most difficult about completing this task is simply trying to clearly get the message out. Grammarly Premium says I have unclear sentences, Intricate text, wordy sentences and so on. There is a chapter in the writers way that would solve all these problems, but I'm still trying to get the gist of all these rules.
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do different?
Since I have no peer and instructor feedback, If I started over I would do some trial and error with active voice use, wordy sentences and clarity sentence by sentence using grammarly premium. I may also pick a different topic entirely like the routine of a multi-sport student athlete.
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past?
The informative essay draft sort of relates to what I've learned in the past by providing examples for the reader and explaining why or why not the reader should do this.
How can you apply this to future learning?
I can apply the Informative Essay (if I finalize it after getting peer feedback) to similarly format my research paper. I could provide in-text examples on the effects of ultramarathon running on the human body.
