Name of Assignment: Job Application Sample
Subject: Junior Seminar
Facilitator/Teacher: Cassandra Kepler
Description of Work/Assignment: Many Juniors have and will have jobs in the near future, so for those Juniors without jobs, this assignment was essentially a guide to the job application process. Students had to do research on the website Indeed and fill out some of the details on their attached doc such as hourly wage and expected work hours.
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why?
This assignment addresses Civic Literacy and Engagement because this work sample gives me a better understanding of how my local community outside of school works and how it will affect my daily life; it does not all have to be about government.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why?
The part of the assignment that made me proud was the familiarity of the assignment. I have tried to apply for a job at Jamba over the summer and the assignment looked similar to the form I had to fill out online. The whole structure of the assignment made it easy, since it was preparing you for an actual job application.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment?
How I improved this 21st century skill was developing an understanding of how my local community worked. It is crucial to know this information now, rather than to be living clueless in a community you grew up in. Knowing how to apply for a job will shape the circumstances that will impact their daily lives for the better.
What was most difficult about completing this task?
There was not much difficulty about completing this assignment. The assignment itself may stir up some questions, but the assignment was a guide to those who have never filled out a job application before. However, Ms. Cassie told us to only use Indeed.com for job finding since ziprecruiter.com had some issues.
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do different?
If I could do something differently, I would try to find a job that better conformed to my needs and interests. I have to keep my information true in the assignment, so there is not much else I could do differently.
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past?
I remember trying to get a summer job at Jamba to get some work experience. The application forms were very similar to the assignments goals and purpose. This assignment was like an icebreaker to applying for a job again in the near future.
How can you apply this to future learning?
I could apply this to future learning by using this assignment as a reference to an actual job application when I am thinking of or currently applying for a part time job.
