I am preventing and educating about sports-related injuries so we can give it our all every day. Thanks to the wonderful Venture Physical Therapy staff and our Kihei Charter teams at home, I have been a helping hand in preventing sports-sustained injuries so our athletes can see a better tomorrow. The method I use to prevent injuries is the Functional Movement System, a 7 reciprocal pattern baseline assessment that looks at movements every human has developed and should be able to do. For instance, the Inline Lunge focuses on a vertical dowel in line with an almost perfectly upright torso. These movements are scored on a scale from zero to three. A zero indicates pain, one indicates dysfunction, while two or three are okay movement patterns unless the left or right are uneven and score a 1/2, 2/1, 2/3, or 3/2.
The legacy for this project lies in an eBook and printable brochures for athletes to view. This problem cannot be fixed easily, and the best treatment or cure is to educate before it is too late. You can see my slideshow containing all external links here.
